FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biotechnology, in particular to a method for generating a plant from a population of plant cells comprising isolating a plant protoplast encapsulated by sodium alginate by fluorescence cell sorting (FACS) enrichment, wherein the plant protoplast comprising a polynucleotide of interest; regenerating a plant from the isolated plant protoplast and culturing said plant.
EFFECT: invention allows efficiently selecting protoplasts with a viability of 95-98 % of the total number of isolated cell protoplasts and regenerating plants from said protoplasts.
