FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to brass alloys and can be used for the manufacture of products in the electrical, engineering and automotive industries. Brass alloy contains Cu, Zn, 0–0.25 wt% Pb and 0.04–0.1 wt% Al2O3, wherein Al2O3 is present in the alloy in the form of ceramic nanoparticles. Brass alloy may additionally contain As, Sn, Fe, Al, Ni, Mn and/or Si additives. Method of producing brass alloy involves adding Al2O3 nanoparticles at the beginning of the melting process in a smelting bath containing scrap brass, wherein scrap brass in the smelting bath contains a number of components corresponding to said composition of the brass alloy.
EFFECT: invention aims to improve the machinability of lead-free brass.
