SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to nephrology, and can be used to diagnose or monitor kidney function. Method according to the invention includes determining the level of proenkephalin or fragments thereof in a bodily fluid, correlating said level of proenkephalin or fragments thereof with kidney function or dysfunction, where said proenkephalin or fragments thereof are selected from a group comprising SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 5, SEQ ID NO: 6, SEQ ID NO: 8, SEQ ID NO: 9, SEQ ID NO: 10 and SEQ ID NO: 11. Kit according to the invention includes two antibodies or antibody fragments, whose target is either amino acids 133–140 (LKELLETG, SEQ ID NO: 13), or amino acids 152–159 (SDNEEEVS, SEQ ID NO: 14).
EFFECT: use of inventions allows for early diagnosis of kidney dysfunction due to the use of proenkephalin or fragments thereof as biomarkers.
