FIELD: medicine; nephrology.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is intended for prediction of the risk of chronic renal disease (CKD). Method for predicting the risk of developing CKD in an individual involves a) determining the level of proenkephalin or fragments thereof in a physiological fluid, obtained from said individual; and b) determining a correlation of said level of proenkephalin or fragments thereof with a risk of developing chronic renal disease, where the above threshold level is prognostic for the high risk of chronic renal disease. Individual is selected from a group comprising (i) healthy individuals, (ii) individuals with the disease not having CKD. Also provided is a method of predicting deterioration or improvement of renal function or dysfunction in (i) healthy individuals, or (ii) individuals with a disease with or without renal dysfunction, wherein the method involves steps (a) determining the level of proenkephalin or fragments thereof in a physiological fluid, obtained from said individual; and (b) determining the correlation of said level of proenkephalin or fragments thereof with a risk of developing chronic renal disease, where the level above the threshold value is prognostic for an increased risk of impaired renal function or dysfunction and where the level below the threshold value is prognostic for a lower risk of impaired renal function or dysfunction. In other embodiments, a device for use in a patient's place of observation for implementing said methods and a kit for carrying out said methods are provided.
EFFECT: using the group of inventions enables determining the risk of developing CKD in an individual, as well as determining the deterioration or improvement of renal function or dysfunction.
