SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine and relates to a method for predicting the risk of breast or lung cancer in a female subject that does not suffer from cancer, comprising determining the level of pro-enkephalin or fragments thereof, consisting of 5 amino acids in total in a bodily fluid obtained from said female subject, and correlating said level of pro-enkephalin (PENK) or fragments thereof with the risk of breast cancer or lung cancer. Reduced level is predictive for an enhanced risk of getting breast cancer or lung cancer.

EFFECT: invention provides an effective method for predicting the risk of breast cancer or lung cancer in a female subject that does not suffer from cancer.
