SYSTEM AND METHOD OF DETECTION AND NEUTRALIZATION OF DIESEL ENGINE OVERRUN Russian patent published in 2019 - IPC F02D41/22 F02D41/04 G05D13/04

Abstract RU 2681206 C1

FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to systems for detection, prediction, termination and prevention of overrun of an internal combustion engine of a diesel type. Engine overrun is defined as a state in which the rotational speed of a diesel engine rises faster and faster than an allowable value due to an unforeseen energy source. System is proposed for detecting and neutralizing the overrun condition in a diesel propulsion system, which contains: intake system for supplying combustion air to the diesel engine and an exhaust system for releasing the diesel engine from the exhaust gas; exhaust gas recirculation system, where the first actuator of the gas flow path is included in the exhaust gas recirculation system, and the second actuator of the gas flow path is included in the exhaust system. Actual and potential overrun conditions are detected and, in response, the diesel engine is deprived of oxygen. Oxygen deprivation is performed by opening the first actuator of the gas flow path and closing the second actuator of the gas flow path to forcibly stop the diesel engine. Deprivation is achieved by maximizing an increase in exhaust gas recirculation into the engine and an increase in pressure drop within the exhaust system for the first predetermined period of time.

EFFECT: technical result is pre-emption of the engine overrun to ensure early detection of a problem in order to increase the chances of the engine shutting down before it gets damaged.
