FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: device for the cultivation of a sulfate-reducing microorganism is proposed, as well as a method for detecting said microorganism. Said device comprises a body, a dry cold water-soluble gelling agent, an indicator reagent for detecting the production of hydrogen sulfide, and a dry first oxygen trapping reagent. Said body includes a waterproof base, a waterproof coversheet attached to the base and a growing compartment between them. Said compartment has an opening for the access of a fluid and a perimeter, and >50 % of the perimeter is determined by a waterproof tight seal. While the indicator reagent and trapping oxygen reagent are located in the compartment for growing, and the gelling agent is glued to the base in the specified compartment. Further, the method includes placing a test sample in the growing compartment, incubating the device and detecting a colony of a sulfate-reducing microorganism.

EFFECT: invention provides for the cultivation, detection and differentiation of sulfate-reducing microorganisms during their incubation.
