SUBSTANCE: invention relates to car identification and inspection. In the method, continuous photographing of an inspected car is carried out using a linear array of cameras moving relative to the car, and the generation of a plurality of partial images of the car and stitching them to produce a cross-linked image, correction of distortions in the cross-linked image with obtaining the corrected image, identification of the car number by the corrected image, however, this correction involves extracting the wheel contour from the cross-linked image, obtaining from the specified contour the relationship between the horizontal diameter and the vertical diameter of the wheel, if this ratio is greater than the first predetermined threshold, compressing the cross-linked image in the horizontal direction according to this ratio, if this ratio is less than the second specified threshold, stretching the cross-linked image in the horizontal direction.
EFFECT: technical result consists in expanding the range of means for car identification.
