In the method, an infusion and blood collection device for use with the patient's catheter and an intravenous infusion line, which supplies an intravenous infusion therapy fluid to the patient, includes a housing, having a flow control clamp and an intravenous infusion inlet, connected to the intravenous infusion line, moreover, the flow control clamp has at least two positions. Further, a micro lumen is collocated with the catheter of the patient and is in fluid communication with the intravenous infusion inlet. Also a blood collection channel is made with the provision of fluid communication with the catheter. And a passive limiting device, when the flow control clamp is in the second position, limits the volume flow of blood drawn from the catheter, and prevents mixing of drawn blood with the intravenous infusion therapy fluid, supplied through the micro lumen. Above flow control clamp, when it is in its first position, fluidly connects the blood collection channel with the intravenous infusion inlet, and when it is in its second position, it isolates the blood collection channel from the intravenous infusion inlet. Disclosed is an alternative version of the design of the device.
