SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PHLEBOTOMY THROUGH PERIPHERAL INTRAVENOUS CATHETER Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC A61B5/153

Abstract RU 2780428 C2

FIELD: medical equipment.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medical equipment, namely to two options of a device for phlebotomy through an intravenous catheter and a method for phlebotomy through an intravenous catheter. In the first option, the device contains a catheter, which forms a lumen passing through a proximal end section and a distal end section of the catheter. The device has an introducer containing the first element and the second element. A section of the second element is located in the first element with the possibility of movement. The distal end section of the first element is made with the possibility of connection to an implanted peripheral intravenous line. The distal end section of the second element includes a catheter protective device. The second element is made with the possibility of movement relatively to the first element. The catheter protective device is located in the first element, when the second element is in a proximal position. The distal end section of the catheter protective device is made distally relatively to the first element and inside the implanted peripheral intravenous line, when the second element is in the second position. The distal end section of the catheter is isolated inside the catheter protective device and is moved with the second element as the second element is moved between the proximal position and the distal position. The catheter is made with the possibility of movement relatively to the second element to be positioned in the second configuration, when the second element is in the distal position, so that the distal end section of the catheter is located distally relatively to the catheter protective device. In the second option, the device contains an introducer. The introducer has a distal end section made with the possibility of connection to an implanted peripheral intravenous line. The introducer is made with the possibility of movement between the first configuration, in which the catheter protective device is placed inside the introducer, and the second configuration, in which the distal end section of the catheter protective device is located distally relatively to the introducer and inside the implanted peripheral intravenous line. The device has a drive mechanism attached to the catheter and made with the possibility of movement of the introducer between the first configuration and the second configuration. The distal end section of the catheter is isolated inside the catheter protective device and is moved with the catheter protective device as the introducer is moved from the first configuration to the second configuration. The drive mechanism is made with the possibility of movement relatively to the catheter protective device, when the introducer is in the second configuration, to position the distal end section of the catheter distally relatively to the catheter protective device. The method includes stages of: attachment of a fluid transfusion device to the peripheral intravenous line, application of the first and the second forces to the drive mechanism, creation of a fluid communication between the catheter and a fluid reservoir, collection of the volume of patient’s body fluid through the catheter into the fluid reservoir.

EFFECT: improvement of a system and a method for phlebotomy through a peripheral intravenous catheter.
