FIELD: heat exchange.
SUBSTANCE: self-cooled food or beverage container with an outer container and a heat exchange unit secured inside said outer container and liquid carbon dioxide. Heat exchange unit contains a valve element, which in one position forms a restrictive orifice, which provides direct transferring liquid carbon dioxide from a liquid to a gaseous state and maintaining pressure in the heat exchange unit to maintain the remaining carbon dioxide in a liquid state, and in the second position, forms a substantially unimpeded flow path, allowing the supply of liquid carbon dioxide to the heat exchange unit.
EFFECT: use of this invention improves the cooling efficiency of food or beverages.
