FIELD: communication equipment; data processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to communication networks based on dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH). Method is proposed for controlling streaming over communication networks, where server and client devices share an active delivery policy, which allows the client device to predict the active delivery of data by the server. Forecasting allows you to cancel sending some actively delivered data in advance, thus reducing bandwidth consumption. Shared active delivery policy can be implicit for both the server and the client. In embodiments, this is explicitly indicated by the server to the client, for example, by attaching a media presentation to the description file or including it in a special HTTP header. Client can also request the update of the shared active delivery policy in accordance with its own requirements.
EFFECT: technical result consists in saving resources on the server side of streaming data.
