SUBSTANCE: invention relates to automotive transmissions. Method of controlling a hydrostatic transmission of a vehicle comprising a hydraulic pump coupled to a first axis of the vehicle; hydraulic motor connected to second axis of vehicle, two complementary hydraulic circuits connect hydraulic pump and hydraulic engine. Hydraulic pump, hydraulic motor and branched circuit are equipped with valve connected between two hydraulic circuits. There is a first mode, in which transmission is activated, and a second mode, in which transmission is deactivated to prevent transfer of torque to the second axis and for operation of vehicle with two drive wheels. There is also third mode, in which transmission is activated, and opening of branched circuit valve is controlled so that part of torque varying depending on vehicle operating parameter is transmitted to second axis of vehicle.
EFFECT: simplified control of transmission.
