FIELD: manufacturing technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of ceramic material for use as a neutron moderator for neutron capture therapy. Disclosed magnesium fluoride sintered compact disk with a through hole, the axis of which coincides with the axis of the sintered compact, and which does not contain cracks or chips. Sintered compact of magnesium fluoride has relative density of 95 % or higher. In order to obtain a compact of high purity fluorine fluoride powder, a matrix containing a core is filled, and performing pulse sintering with application of mechanical pressure and pulse DC supply. To produce neutron moderator several sintered magnesium fluoride discs with central hole are ground and layered on each other and jointed together. Taper space is imparted to central through hole of disc-shaped compacts. Sintered magnesium fluoride discs without a hole are connected to the obtained system and have a conical outer surface.

EFFECT: avoiding cracks and chips on the surface of compacts and obtaining a neutron moderator capable of suppressing neutrons with energy below ½ eV and with energy higher than 10 keV.
