SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical devices with a light-guiding substrate. Optical device comprises a substrate transmitting light waves and having at least two main surfaces and edges, as well as a plurality of partially reflecting surfaces supported by the substrate, wherein the partially reflecting surfaces are parallel to each other and are not parallel to any of the edges of the substrate. According to the method, at least one transparent flat plate and plates are provided, having partially reflecting surfaces and optically connecting flat plates for creation of stacked stepped stack. At least one segment is cut from a stacked stepped plate by cutting several plates, the segment is ground and polished to obtain a substrate which transmits light waves. Plates are optically connected to each other using an optical method without using an adhesive.
EFFECT: technical result is reduction of dimensions, higher image quality.
