SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical devices with a light-conducting substrate. Optical system has a light-transmitting substrate having at least two outer main surfaces and edges, as well as an optical element for inputting light waves into the substrate by total internal reflection. At least one partially reflecting surface is placed inside the substrate for output of light waves from the substrate and at least one transparent layer, having a refraction index which is considerably lower than the refractive index of the light-transmissive substrate, is optically connected to at least one of the base surfaces of the substrate, thereby forming a separation plane. Light waves trapped inside the substrate are almost completely reflected from the plane of separation between the base surface of the substrate and the transparent layer.
EFFECT: device improves compactness and image quality.
