FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to light guide optical devices with a substrate. The optical device includes a light-transmitting substrate, entrance and exit apertures, an exit pupil, an intermediate element located outside the substrate for introducing light waves into the substrate through the entrance aperture, a first reflective surface between two main surfaces of the light-transmitting substrate for reflecting the introduced light waves, a second flat reflective surface parallel to the first planar reflective surface located between the main surfaces of the light transmitting substrate for extracting light waves from the substrate, and an optical element for deflecting light waves extracted from the substrate through the exit aperture into the exit pupil.
EFFECT: input aperture is substantially smaller than the output aperture, all incoming light waves pass into the input aperture, all light waves output from the substrate by the second flat reflective surface are introduced into the substrate by reflection from the first reflective surface, the active area of the first reflective surface is similar to the active area of the second reflective surface, and each of the introduced light waves completely covers the aperture of the exit pupil.
