FIELD: wireless communication equipment.

SUBSTANCE: base station broadcasts the synchronization signal using a narrowband portion of the cell bandwidth. Synchronization signal includes a sequence repeating over several symbol periods using the coverage code. User equipment (UE) receiving the synchronization signal determines the frequency and timing information for the cell by performing a weighted combination and accumulating autocorrelation procedures and low-complexity cross-correlation over the synchronization signal. Correlated procedures with reduced complexity may be allowed based on use of coverage code and basic sequence. Mutual correlation can be performed at several sampling frequencies. Using the coverage code inside the synchronization signal supports correlation procedures using recursive or repetitive updates to provide reduced computational complexity with respect to other cell search procedures.

EFFECT: technical result is providing energy-efficient acquisition of synchronism with the cell.
