FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and an apparatus for simultaneous detection of diffusion and the role of a redox-active substance(-s) in a fluid sample using redox reactions. Method of determining diffusion characteristics of a fluid sample using oxidation-reduction reactions in an electrochemical cell having at least two electrodes, wherein the first electrode has on its surface or in close proximity to its surface at least one redox-mediator, and the second electrode at the beginning of the test has a surface free from the redox-mediator(-s), comprising steps of: applying an electric potential to a fluid sample in an electrochemical cell for triggering redox reactions on two surfaces of the electrodes; measuring current associated with applied potential, depending on time, and applying the measurement point to the transient component of the measured current at the turn point or thereafter and the associated time for determining the diffusion characteristic.

EFFECT: invention provides increase in the measurements accuracy.
