FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgical processes and devices and more specifically to a metallurgical furnace capable of operating with a wide range of feedstock and with different fuel, including fuel containing high impurity levels. Metallurgical furnace includes upper shaft (1), lower shaft (2), at least one fuel supply device, located substantially between upper shaft (1) and lower shaft (2), at least one row of tuyeres (3, 4) , located in at least one of upper shaft (1) and lower shaft (2). At least one row of tuyeres (3, 4) provides fluid connection between furnace inner part and surrounding space. Furnace additionally comprises at least one cap (6) located in upper shaft (1) and extending longitudinally through furnace, and at least one fuel feed means (8) in the center of the upper shaft, providing formation in the furnace center of the fuel column having an area with high permeability for the formed gases.

EFFECT: invention provides efficient control of gas distribution in furnace.
