FIELD: data processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of switching reproduction during stream sessions over a protocol for transfer of hypertext (HTTP) media content in a communication system. Media content is divided into a plurality of segments, each of which corresponds to a time interval of said media content, in which a plurality of segment playback is available. Compiling in server node said available playback segments of media content into groups, wherein said stage of assembly is based on marking each reproduction information on identification of groups, identifying specific characteristics of each segment, wherein each group identification information indicates whether it is possible to switch between group playback during streaming. Providing, by said server, said group identification information which identifies said groups and corresponding to them reproduction of medical content segments, a client node or an intermediate node in said system. Selecting next reproduction based on said provided group identification information and switching in said client node from current playback to said selected reproduction of media content segments.

EFFECT: technical result consists in providing optimum quality of media session playback without unnecessary buffering and downtime.
