METHOD FOR CONTROLLING THE BEAM PATTERN OF AN ACTIVE PHASED ANTENNA ARRAY Russian patent published in 2019 - IPC G01R29/10

Abstract RU 2691378 C1

FIELD: antenna equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to controlling electrical characteristics of antennae, in particular active phased antenna arrays (APAA), having electrically controlled phase changers to form a given beam pattern (BP). Disclosed method of controlling beam pattern is applicable both for receiving and emitting part of APAA. In implementing the method, the measuring or emitting probe is stationary in the near zone of the APAA in the direction of zero-bearing of the antenna array. APAA beam pattern is focused by means of the phase changers of each channel of the antenna array to a point on the sphere surface with a radius equal to the distance from the APAA geometrical center to the probe. Focusing point is determined by the angles corresponding to the analyzed tabs. Thus, when APAA is focused in the near zone at a distance of approximately 60–70 % of the near-boundary boundary and using a fixed probe, a BP can be obtained in relative values, repeating the shape of the BP in the far zone with an error of not more than 3 dB.

EFFECT: simplified control of beam pattern.
