Electrode catalyst for fuel cells contains carbon material with ratio of peak intensity IA, obtained from amorphous structure, to peak intensity IG, obtained from graphite structure in X-ray diffraction spectrum (ratio IA/IG), equal to 0.90 or less, as carrier supporting catalyst.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to prevent increase of gas diffusion resistance.
