FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a modified polypeptide having O-acetyl-homoserine-sulfhydrylase activity, where 196th amino acid from the N-terminus of the polypeptide represented by the amino acid sequence SEQ ID NO: 1, valine, is replaced with threonine. Polynucleotide encoding said modified polypeptide is provided. Disclosed is an expression vector containing said polynucleotide. Disclosed is a microorganism of the genus Escherichia, which produces O-acetyl-homoserine-sulfhydrylase, which expresses said modified polypeptide having O-acetyl-homoserine-sulfhydrylase activity, or contains said expression vector. Disclosed is a method for producing methionine involving reacting said modified polypeptide or microorganism producing said modified polypeptide or product of its cultivation with O-acetylhomoserine and methylmercaptan.

EFFECT: group of inventions enables to increase production of methionine using said modified polypeptide compared to the wild type of said polypeptide.
