FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to neurology, neuroreanimatology and neurophysiology, and can be used for prediction of consciousness recovery in patients in vegetative state (VS) with consequences of severe brain injury of nontraumatic genesis. That is ensured by recording the background EEG for 20 minutes. Presence of spontaneous rearrangements is detected. It is followed by repeated recording of EEG within 20 minutes 60 minutes after enteral administration of zolpidem 10 mg. Results of two EEG are compared. If the index of alpha and beta rhythms is increased, the ratio of Delta / Alpha energy ranges and the manifestations of sleep graphonuclei, such as carotid spindles and K-complexes is reduced, recovery of consciousness is considered to be prognostically favorable.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to expand possibilities of prediction of consciousness recovery in patients in VS nontraumatic genesis by using GABAergic zolpidem preparation.
