FIELD: production of molten metal.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes forming molten metal and slag bath in converter, injecting materials of charge in form of solid material and carrier gas into molten bath at rate no less than 40 m/s through lance directed downward, generating surface gas flow in molten bath, injecting oxygen-containing gas to upper area of converter through lance and after-burning of combustible gases separated from molten bath. Generating the surface gas flow in molten bath is performed partially due to reactions of material being injected in bath which cause effluent of molten material upward in form of splashes, drops and flows and forming widened zone of molten bath. Gas flow and molten material discharged upward cause motion of material within molten bath and intensive stirring of it.
EFFECT: considerable maximization of melting in lower part of molten bath; enhanced efficiency of transfer of heat generated at after-burning; minimization of heat losses.
