FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of aluminum by electrolysis of molten salts, which includes supply of raw material and boron-containing additives into an electrolysis cell in anodes, in which, at the first stage, vanadium-containing compounds with incoming feedstock or in anodes in amount of up to 150÷200 ppm of vanadium in aluminum for 30÷60 days, after which production of commercial aluminum is ensured by using anodes with impurities or additives of transition metals and boron-containing compounds in quantitative ratio Bor/Me=0.65÷1.0, where Bor and Me are the amount of dosed boron and total content of impurities of transition metals in anodes. Features of proposed technology make it possible to involve in production of available petroleum cokes with high content of heavy metals, to ensure acquisition by carbon cathode of wetting properties and can be basis for development of new technologies of electrolysis of aluminum.

EFFECT: use of the proposed method provides reduction of anode consumption by at least 5 kg/t of Al and loss of voltage in the cathode of not less than 30 mV, higher stability of the technological process and current output, reduced power consumption.
