SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of driver control and vehicle control safety. Method for preventing falling asleep of a driver of a vehicle, comprising forming a driver pupil standard based on a description common to any person, periodic illumination of the driver's face with infrared light, obtaining a face image, detecting eye areas, determining boundaries of pupil motion area, determining frequency and directions of eye movement, determining frequency of blinking, determining duration of period of time, during which eyes are closed, comparing parameters characterizing driver state with reference, decision on necessity of signalling on falling asleep of the driver, differing by fact that determination of standard and current condition of sclera eye colour and temperature of circular eye muscle of driver, comparison of current parameters with reference ones and accounting when deciding on necessity of signalling about driver falling asleep is performed.

EFFECT: higher traffic safety due to timely detection of fatigue, slumber and fact of falling asleep driver.
