FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in systems for neutralization of exhaust gases of internal combustion engines. Electrochemical reactor (70) comprises proton-conducting layer of solid electrolyte, anode layer, cathode layer and current control device. Anode layer is placed on the surface of the solid electrolyte layer and is capable of retaining water molecules. Cathode layer is placed on the surface of the solid electrolyte layer. Current control device controls current flowing through anode layer and cathode layer. Current control device is configured to reduce the current flowing through the anode layer and the cathode layer when the water molecules held on the anode layer become smaller in number. Internal combustion engine is disclosed.

EFFECT: technical result consists in efficient removal of NOx emissions irrespective of concentration of water molecules in exhaust gas.
