FIELD: smoking accessories.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to systems generating an aerosol, such as hand-held electrically-controlled smoking systems, and to liquid storage parts used in aerosol-generating systems. Cartridge for the aerosol generating system, wherein the cartridge comprises a sensor comprising a capacitor with a first capacitor coating and a second capacitor coating; liquid storage part for holding the aerosol-forming liquid substrate, wherein liquid storage part is located between first capacitor coating and second capacitor coating, wherein dielectric permeability of fluid storage portion varies with volume change of liquid aerosol-forming substrate held in liquid storage part; and an evaporator, wherein the sensor is configured to measure the capacitance of the capacitor, wherein the measured capacitance is associated with the corresponding dielectric permeability of the liquid aerosol-forming substrate held in the liquid storage portion such that the volume of the liquid aerosol-forming substrate held in the liquid storage portion, can be determined based on the measured capacitance; and at least a portion of the inner volume of the liquid storage portion has a width dimension smaller than a predetermined value, whereby capillary forces act on the liquid substrate forming the aerosol held in the liquid storage portion to maintain the liquid aerosol-forming substrate substantially perpendicular to first capacitor plate and second capacitor plate.

EFFECT: technical results of the invention are creation of an aerosol generating system which improves accuracy of determining the volume of the remaining liquid and is characterized by the possibility of determining the volume of the remaining liquid, which does not require accumulation of the volume of liquid consumed by the moment.
