SUBSTANCE: invention relates to aerosol-generating systems, such as hand-held electrically driven smoking systems, and to liquid storage parts used in aerosol generating systems, in which aerosol-forming substrate is liquid and is contained in liquid storage part. Cartridge for the aerosol generating system comprises a liquid storage part for holding the aerosol-forming liquid substrate, wherein the fluid storage part comprises one or more flexible walls and is configured to vary at least one of the shape and size of the liquid storage part when changing the volume of the liquid aerosol-forming substrate held in the liquid storage part; sensor for measuring a physical characteristic index, wherein the measured index relates to at least one of the corresponding shape and the corresponding size of the liquid storage part, as a result, the volume of the liquid aerosol-forming substrate held in the liquid storage part can be determined based on the measured index; and an evaporator.

EFFECT: design of an aerosol generating system which improves accuracy of determining the volume of the remaining liquid and is configured to determine the volume of the remaining liquid, which does not require accumulation of the volume of liquid consumed to this moment.
