FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to neurology, endocrinology and radiation diagnostics, and can be used for diagnosing cognitive dysfunctions in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM). Task is solved as follows: proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy is carried out in a patient with type 1 diabetes, and then, using the results of discriminant function, calculating D, where ChoHypLeft is the choline content in the left hippocampus, ChoHypRight is the choline content in the right hippocampus, CrHypLeft is the creatine content in the left hippocampus, CrHypRight is the creatine content in the right hippocampus, CrPHypLeft is the creatine phosphate content in the left hippocampus, CrPHypRight is content of creatine phosphate in right hippocampus, NAAHypLeft – content of N-acetylaspartate in left hippocampus, NAAHypRight – content of N-acetylaspartate in right hippocampus. If D<0, diagnosing the presence of cognitive dysfunction (which corresponds to less than 27 points according to the Montreal scale of assessing cognitive functions), if D>0, the absence of cognitive dysfunction is diagnosed (which corresponds to the result ≥27 points by Montreal scale of cognitive functions assessment).

EFFECT: method enables early diagnosis of the presence of cognitive dysfunction in the patients with type 1 diabetes even in the absence of clinical manifestations.
