SUBSTANCE: invention relates to engine cooling system. Disclosed are methods and systems for improving evaluation of coolant level of an engine in order to reduce engine overheating. Liquid level in the expansion tank is determined based on the liquid level in the hollow vertical tube, connected with possibility of hydraulic communication with the tank in the upper and lower locations, wherein the level of liquid in the tube can be determined based on the values of the time of the echo signal of the ultrasonic signal emitted by the sensor located in the compartment in the lower part of the vertical tube. Engine power is limited in different ways based on the specified coolant level conditions determined based on the change of coolant level in the tank over a certain period of time.
EFFECT: invention provides higher accuracy and reliability of determining the coolant level in the expansion tank of the coolant.
