SUBSTANCE: invention relates to engine cooling system. Disclosed are methods and systems for improving evaluation of coolant level of an engine in order to reduce engine overheating. Liquid level in the expansion tank of the coolant can be evaluated based on the liquid level in the hollow vertical tube connected to the hydraulic connection with the tank in the upper and lower parts, wherein the level of liquid in the tube is evaluated based on the output ultrasonic signal transmitted by the sensor located in the recess in the lower part of the vertical tube. Sensor uses a combination of initial time values of the echo signal and processed data on the liquid level for reliable and correct estimation of the liquid level.
EFFECT: invention provides higher accuracy and reliability of determining the coolant level in the expansion tank of the coolant.
