FIELD: environmental protection.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to environmental protection, in particular to analytical control of content of oil contaminants in mineral, organogenic and mixed bottom sediments. Method can be used for environmental monitoring of contaminated water bodies, for assessment of damage to a water body, and for planning of extraction works. Method for determining weight of oil contaminants per unit area of bottom sediments of water bodies includes sampling, drying sample to air-dry state, extraction of oil products from bottom sediments, chromatographic separation of oil products from accompanying organic compounds of other classes, quantitative determination of oil products by intensity of absorption in infrared region of spectrum. According to the invention, the sampling area and the total weight of the bottom sediments in each sample are recorded, and the content of oil contaminants per unit area of bottom sediments is determined by the formula Cs=C0/Sn=(Mn×(Cx-Cf))/(1000×Sn), where Mn is weight of whole sample of bottom sediments from point n; C0 is weight of oil products in whole sample of bottom sediments from point n; Sn is the area of capture by bottom sediments when sampling; Cx is mass concentration of oil products based on measurement results; Cf is normative mass concentration of oil contaminants as per established background values or by standard of allowable residual content of oil contaminants.
EFFECT: high validity of determining oil contaminants of single area of bottom sediments of water bodies owing to high accuracy of measuring sampling area and mass of analyzed bottom sediments in a water body.
