FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of ecology, environmental protection, and pertains to a method for conducting environmental monitoring of the water area of the Björkösund Strait of the Gulf of Finland. The substance of the method consists in taking samples of seawater, bottom sedimentation, phyto- and zooplankton from at least 2 different sites. The collected samples are then analysed, the results of the analysis are compared with the standard indicators of the water area, long-time archival data, and indicators of the adjacent water areas. The muscle tissue of hydrobionts in the form of zebra mussel Dreissena polymorpha, and/or rainbow trout Parasalmo mykiss, and/or Baltic whitefish Coregonus lavaretus is examined for the content of petroleum products. A conclusion is made on the ecological state of the marine ecosystem based on the results of the examination of hydrobionts, sea water, bottom sedimentation, phyto- and zooplankton. If the mass fraction of petroleum products in the muscle tissue samples of the hydrobionts is greater than 150 mg/kg, a conclusion is made that the water area of the Björkösund Strait of the Gulf of Finland could have been contaminated with petroleum and petroleum products.
EFFECT: use of the method provides a possibility of conducting environmental monitoring of the water area of the Björkösund Strait of the Gulf of Finland with high accuracy.
