FIELD: weapons.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to military affairs and is intended to provide protection of weapons, military equipment and other objects from damage by artillery shells, including armour-piercing, for example, sub-calibre and cumulative ammunition. To increase resistance of armour to action of projectiles it is made multilayer. According to the proposed technical solution, in order to exclude the appearance of the spalled-type splinters on the back side of the protection, the last layer of such protection is made of beryllium. This metal has unique strength properties, and, most importantly, the elastic waves speed in it is 12,600 m/s. This property of metal will protect the barrier from formation of shock waves in it under action of projectiles with speed of less than 12,600 m/s. Shock waves, as is known, occur in a medium when the body moves in it at a rate higher than the speed of elastic waves.
EFFECT: most known artillery shells have velocities much less than this value.
