FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for determining the presence of a user's hand on a steering wheel of a vehicle and a computer for carrying out the method. Mobile data of movement are received from a wearable portable device through a computer. Mobile data of movement are used to identify a vibration moment signal including a periodic component. Periodic component corresponds to vibration of the steering wheel during driving and is transmitted by the steering column to the steering wheel. It is then determined that the user's hand is located on the steering wheel at least partially on the basis of the periodic component of the vibration moment signal on the mobile data of movement.
EFFECT: higher safety during vehicle operation.
