FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used for melting electric steel scrap in electric arc furnace. Melting device comprises bulk dump and overturning mechanism, by means of which furnace housing containing cover of furnace housing can be tilted relative to tilting axis into different tilting positions, wherein the furnace housing sealing area is made in the form of a convex cylindrical surface, and bulk area of bulk is made in form of complementary concave cylindrical surface of seal, so that areas of sealing surfaces of both sealing areas in different positions of overturning of overturning mechanism are located opposite to each other so that transition area between bulk magazine and furnace housing in all positions of furnace body overturning is at least considerably compacted. In compliance with proposed method, loaded material is preheated by hop furnace gas in hopper container and after further transfer of feed material from hopper container to bulkhead whereat said feed material is preheated by furnace gas.
EFFECT: invention allows preventing loss of heat energy.
