SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely therapy, gastroenterology and thoracic surgery, and can be used for diagnostics of diaphragmatic hernias. Patient having complaints and history data corresponding to clinical picture of diaphragmatic hernia, auscultation is performed with stethoscope at listening points of mitral and tricuspid valve, Botkin-Erb's zone and obtusio cardiaca absoluta. Patient, who does not have auscultatory signs of a diaphragmatic hernia, is additionally suggested to take 100–150 ml of drinking non-carbonated water. After that, the patient takes a horizontal position first, and then a sitting position, followed by repeated auscultation with a stethoscope of the patient's front chest surface at the listening points of the mitral and tricuspid valves, the Botkin-Erb’s zone and obtusio cardiaca absoluta. When observing pathological peristalsis in at least one of the above auscultation points, a hernia of the esophageal opening of the diaphragm is diagnosed.

EFFECT: method enables higher diagnostic efficiency of diaphragmatic hernias by evaluating the complex of the most significant indicators.
