FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and apparatus for determining liquid density. Cylindrical plunger, which shank is located on sensitive element of scales outside liquid, is weighed twice, for the first time weight G1 isolated plunger, then fully immersed into liquid float with exactly known weight and volume is released, bringing it into axially symmetric contact with plunger, and measuring force G2. Fluid density is calculated by formula ρL=(G1-G2+Gfl)/(gVfl), where Gfl – weight of float, Vfl is volume of float, and g is acceleration of gravity. Device comprises a plunger with a shank arranged on a sensitive element of electronic scales. Inside the shank there is a rod which does not contact the plunger, the movement of which provides one of three possible positions of the completely immersed float: the float is pressed to the plunger by a rod, measurement is not performed; float does not contact with plunger, but is retained by rod, measurement G1; float has contact with plunger, but does not touch the rod, measurement G2.
EFFECT: high accuracy of measurements in a wide range of variation of density of liquids, elimination of subjective errors during measurements and easy automation of the measurement process.
