FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to induction media for producing an immunologically polarized population of mesenchymal stem cells from a non-stimulated population of mesenchymal stem cells, immunologically polarized populations of mesenchymal stem cells and treating diseases in a subject. Induction medium contains Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) ligand in concentration between 1 mcg/ml and 2.5 mcg/ml, erythropoietin in concentration between 0.1 ng/ml and 1.0 ng/ml or 5 ng/ml, and 0.5–2 % oxygen or hypoxia mimetic. Immunologically polarized population of mesenchymal stem cells, having anti-inflammatory characteristics marked by expression of anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive mediators, is obtained by treatment with said medium, wherein TLR3 is poly (I:C), which is delivered into an unstimulated population of mesenchymal stem cells by transfection. A method of treating inflammatory disorders or autoimmune disorders in a subject involves administering to said individual a population.
