FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, particularly to methods of eliminating porosity and restoring tightness in shaped casts from magnesium alloys. Method comprises applying a gallium low-melting metal alloy at room temperature on the surface of the embedded defective portion of the cast part in an amount which is minimally necessary for wetting the defective portion, its further distribution on the surface of the cast part by a tool which damages the surface oxide film of the cast part, thermal treatment at 350–500 °C and removal of the gallium-rich layer from the surface of the cast part by cleaning it with an abrasive material.
EFFECT: invention increases strength of casts by restoring tightness of its surface.
