FIELD: engine building.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to internal combustion engines, in particular to a method (versions) and a system for controlling operation of an engine based on temperature of exhaust gases. Method for controlling engine operation based on temperature of exhaust gases comprises steps of obtaining data from sensor in controller, estimating shift of oxygen sensor heating element resistance value at engine operating temperature and external temperature based on said data by means of controller, estimating exhaust gas temperature of engine based on resistance value of oxygen sensor heating element and said displacement using controller, and adjusting the actuator in accordance with engine exhaust gas temperature.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of exhaust gas temperature estimation, reduction of deterioration of exhaust gas temperature sensor, compensation of change of characteristics of exhaust gas temperature sensor, occurring for a long time, instead of single compensation of characteristics of sensor.
