SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to detection of solid particles in exhaust gases of vehicles. Method of operating a solid particle content sensor comprises forming a first electric field using a pair of flat alternating electrodes connected to a first voltage source, formation of second electric field by means of said pair of flat alternating electrodes and second flat element parallel to said pair of flat alternating electrodes. Second flat element is connected to the second voltage source, besides, the voltage of the second voltage source is different from the voltage of the first voltage source.

EFFECT: enabling occurrence of amplified electric field, which increases efficiency of soot particles capture by sensor unit surface and increases sensitivity of solid particles sensors.
