In the method of determining optimum service life of a filter between filter replacements in a filter-ventilation system, a cost parameter associated with the object part of the filter and a cost parameter associated with operation of the filter are obtained. Then a set of measured data elements is obtained, each of which represents the measured value of pressure drop on the filter at the corresponding moment in time and determining the optimal service life of the filter by minimizing the total consumption of the filter resource.
