SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing a first high-purity diol selected from a group consisting of C2-C7 diols from a product stream comprising two or more C2-C7 diols, wherein the product stream is or is formed from a product stream from a saccharide hydrogenolysis method, wherein said method comprises the steps of: (i) feeding a product stream for distillation into a first distillation column to obtain a lower stream containing high-boiling by-products and an upper stream containing a mixture of two or more C2-C7 diols; (ii) feeding said mixture containing two or more C2-C7 diols as feedstock to a second distillation column; (iii) feeding the feedstock containing the extractant to the second distillation column over the mixture, containing two or more C2-C7 diols; (iv) operating the second distillation column at a temperature in range of 50 to 250 °C and pressure in range of 0.1 to 400 kPa; (v) removing a stream containing a first diol and an extractant in form of a bottom stream from a second distillation column and (vi) feeding a stream containing a first diol and an extractant, to a third distillation column to provide an upper stream containing a first high purity diol, wherein the extractant is selected from a group of C3-C6 sugar alcohols and mixtures thereof.
EFFECT: technical result is extraction of target high-purity diols in simple and effective way.
