FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: invention represents a method for selection of beef steaks of meat breeds with high potential of weight growth as per elemental composition of wool, including cutting a wool sample weighing not less than 0.4 g from the top part of withers at 8 months of age with further evaluation of Al, Pb, I and Se concentrations by methods atomic emission and mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma and is characterized by that as a criterion for estimating growth intensity a toxic load coefficient is used, which is calculated by formula K=(Al+Pb)/(Se+I), where K is a coefficient of toxic load, units, Al is amount of aluminum in wool from withers, mmol/kg, Pb is amount of lead in wool from withers, mmol/kg, Se is amount of selenium in wool from withers, mmol/kg, I is the amount of iodine in wool from withers, mmol/kg, if the toxic load factor is less than 634 units, bull-calves is referred to group of animals with high potential of weight growth, at value of factor 634.1–1,804.9 units, bull-calves are referred to group with average, and at above 1,805 units, bull-calves are referred to a group with low potential of weight growth.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to estimate genetic potential of bull-calves productivity and can be used for detection of highly productive bull-calves for fattening.
