SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of biotechnology. The invention is a method for predicting the down productivity of Orenburg breed goats by the elemental composition of wool, including, at the beginning of the formation of down fiber (September), shearing a wool sample weighing at least 0.4 g from the upper part of the withers with further assessment of Al, Sr and K concentrations by atomic emission and mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma and differing in the fact that the toxic load coefficient is used as a criterion for assessing down productivity, with the value of the toxic load coefficient below 1.48 units, animals should be classified as a group with a high potential for down productivity, with a coefficient value in the range of 1.49-18.42 units, as the group with an average potential and at a value above 18.43 units, to the group with a low down productivity potential.
EFFECT: expansion of the range of wool production assessment methods.
