SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PHLEBOTOMY THROUGH PERIPHERAL INTRAVENOUS CATHETER Russian patent published in 2019 - IPC A61B5/153

Abstract RU 2688010 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medical equipment, specifically to versions of a device for phlebotomy through a peripheral intravenous line and a phlebotomy method. Device comprises a catheter having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion and a lumen. Device comprises an introducer comprising a first element and a second element. Section of second element is located in first element with possibility of movement between proximal position and distal position relative to first element. Second element comprises guide element. Distal end section of the guide element is located in a distal position relative to the first element when the second element is in a distal position. Device includes a fixing mechanism connected to the distal end of the first element. Fixing mechanism is configured to connect introducer to said peripheral intravenous line. Device comprises a drive mechanism connected to the catheter. Drive mechanism section is located in the second element and is configured to move from the first configuration to the second configuration to move the second element from its proximal position into its distal position. Drive mechanism is movable relative to second element for location in second configuration, when second element is in its distal position. Catheter is located inside introducer and guide element, when drive mechanism is in first configuration and passes behind the guide element and beyond the end of the peripheral intravenous line, when the drive mechanism is in the second configuration. Second version of the device differs from the first one in that the section of the second introducer is movable in the first introducer such that the ledge passing from the outer surface of the second introducer is located in the channel, and second introducer has range of movement relative to first introducer specified by channel. Method of phlebotomy involves a stage of attaching a liquid transfusion device to a peripheral intravenous line. Method of phlebotomy comprises stage of application of first force to drive mechanism. First force is sufficient for movement of the second element relative to the first element from the first position, in which the guide element is located in the first element, in the second position, in which the distal end section of the guide element is inserted through the port of the peripheral intravenous line. Catheter is located inside and moves together with the guide element when the second element moves from the first position to the second position. Method of phlebotomy comprises stage of application of second force to drive mechanism, wherein the second force is sufficient to move the drive mechanism relative to the second member when the second member is in the second position to advance the catheter from a first position in which the catheter is positioned in the introducer and the guide member to a second position wherein the distal end portion of the catheter extends guide element and beyond end of peripheral intravenous line. Phlebotomy method comprises a step of attaching a fluid reservoir to a liquid transfusion device. Fluid reservoir is fluidly connected to the catheter. Phlebotomy method involves a step of collecting body fluid volume through the catheter lumen into the fluid reservoir.

EFFECT: improved phlebotomy through an intravenous catheter.
